EXECUTIVE MANAGEMENT

POLICY

The Executive Management is responsible to the Vice-Chancellor for the conduct of all University business and the achievement of University objectives.

The specific powers of the Vice-Chancellor are provided for and determined by the Senate and the authorities contained in the Murdoch University Act as amended.

POWERS OF THE VICE-CHANCELLOR

The Vice-Chancellor shall, under the Senate, subject to the statutes and to any resolution of the Senate:

  1. manage and supervise the administrative, financial and other business of the University, and have the care of the property of the University;
  2. prepare for submission to each regular meeting of the Senate a report of the work done at the University since the last regular meeting;
  3. collect and prepare for the Senate and its committees all information, including estimates of receipts and expenditure required by them in relation to the finances of the University;
  4. regulate the duties of the staff of the University and appoint and dismiss staff below the rank of professor;
  5. have authority to incur expenditure not exceeding *$100,000 on items for which budgetary provision has been made;
  6. on occasion of his or her illness or temporary absence, appoint in the writing a deputy from among the members of the academic staff of the rank of professor or associate professor to exercise the powers and discharge the duties of the Vice-Chancellor until the Senate shall have an opportunity of confirming such appointment or making such other arrangements as may be considered advisable;
  7. in all cases of emergency take such steps as he may deem necessary for safeguarding the interests of the University; and immediately report his action to the Chancellor and to the next meeting of the Senate;
  8. exerise a general supervision over all persons in the service of the University, and generally take such measures as may be necessary for the efficent carrying out of the will of the duly constituted authorities.
