Where an employee’s Workplace Agreement allows for flexible working arrangements these guidelines will apply.
The arrangements must be practicable and convenient for the University to service the needs of its community and to assist staff members to better accommodate a work-life balance.
An agreement on a flexible working arrangement must be decided between the employee and their direct supervisor. The agreement must be recorded in writing, signed by the employee and the supervisor, and a copy placed on the employee’s personal file.
The flexible working arrangement agreement must contain a provision for terminating the agreement with the giving of a set period of notice by either party.
The agreement needs to set out the parameters within which flexibility will be allowed. The agreement cannot increase or decrease the average weekly hours of work of the employee.
Flexible working arrangements can allow for normal hours to be worked outside the normal span of hours (6am to 7pm), without additional payments being made.
The agreement must set limits for how much in front, or behind, average hours an employee can operate. The agreement must not allow for an employee to be more than 15 hours behind, or 37.5 hours in front of their average weekly hours.
The employee and their supervisor are responsible for ensuring that the hours worked under the arrangement are properly recorded and remain within the parameters set out in the agreement. The supervisor must, at least monthly, sign off on the hours worked.
