Murdoch University holds a position of responsibility within the community and abroad
and as such must exercise care in all communication relating to values and views.
No political viewpoints are to be communicated or activities to take place as
representative of the University outside the policy standards and guidelines.
The following standards and guidelines apply in relation to political activity on
campus:
- Members of staff commenting publicly on a public issue other than in a professional or
expert capacity should do so from their private address and should not use the name of the
University, or otherwise identify themselves as members of the staff of the University.

- Members of staff commenting publicly on a public issue other than in a professional or

- Members of staff writing or speaking publicly in a professional or expert capacity may
identify themselves by their University appointment or qualifications and may for that
purpose use the name of the University.
- In the case of doubt the member of staff should consult with the Vice-Chancellor and be
guided by his opinion.
- The internal mail services and other University facilities may not be used to advance
the interest of a particular political party. An exception is made for reprographic
services, which, in accordance with general procedures, may be used and paid for by
affiliated clubs or organisations of the University in the carrying out of their club
functions.
- Meetings concerning political issues or political parties may be held on campus if they
are sponsored by a student or University community group acting within its generally
accepted powers, functions, or objects.
- Advertisements concerning political matters which are not sponsored by a University Club
or organisation or are outside its general accepted powers, functions or objects may be
allowed on display areas but may not be permitted on University notice boards.
