Emeritus Professor / Associate Professor

May be conferred on a retiring Professor or Associate Professor of the University in recognition of sustained outstanding service to the University 

Professors or Associate Professors with sustained outstanding service to the University, who have notified the University of their impending retirement and have shown an interest in the future development of the University. Associate Professors will have served at least five years as an employee.

Vice-Chancellor.

Continuing

Yes

 

Honorary Fellow

For distinguished scholars with whom the University wishes to have associated with its work.

Distinguished scholars, resident in Western Australia. 

Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research)

Continuing

Yes

 

Honorary Research Fellow

May be conferred on a retiring member of the academic staff who wishes to continue research activities, or postgraduate supervision, in association with the University.

Retiring members of academic staff of at least Senior Lecturer status.

Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research) for appointments at Senior Lecturer and Associate Professor status. Vice-Chancellor for professorial appointments.

Initial term of three years.

Honorary Research Associate 

1.For postgraduate research students.

1.Postgraduate research students who have submitted their doctoral thesis for examination.

Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research)

1. Up to twelve months

1 & 2 Yes, as an associate researcher in conjunction with a continuous member of the Murdoch University academic staff.

 

2.For active researchers who wish to conduct research activities, or co-supervise  postgraduate research, in association with the University. 

2.Active researchers will have at least an ordinary degree.  Co-supervisors of postgraduate research students will require at least a postgraduate qualification.

2. Up to three years.

 

 

3.For retiring members of academic staff who wish to continue research activities, or postgraduate supervision, in association with the University.

3. Retiring members of academic staff at Associate Lecturer or Lecturer status.

3. Initial term of three years.

Yes

 

Visiting Professor

For academic visitors with an outstanding record of achievement in research.

Academic visitors from interstate or overseas who are of  professorial status with an outstanding record of achievement in research.

Vice-Chancellor.

For a period determined by the Vice-Chancellor

Only with the prior approval of the PVC (Research)

 

Visiting Fellow 

For academic visitors wishing to work with research groups.

Academic visitors from interstate or overseas of at least Senior Lecturer status.

Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research)

Minimum of one month to maximum of two years

Only with the prior approval of the PVC (Research)

 

Visiting Research Associate

For academic visitors wishing to work with research groups in the University.

Academic visitors from interstate or overseas who do not meet the eligibility requirements for Visiting Fellow. 

Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research)

Minimum of one month to maximum of two years

Only with the prior approval of the PVC (Research)

 

Visiting Occupational Trainee

For visitors who wish to undertake training in association with activities at the University. 

Students or employees of other overseas organizations who are required to undertake training in Australia that is compatible with their employment and/or educational history.

Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research)

Up to twelve months

Senior Scholar-in-Residence

Where there would be a significant advantage to the University in having a person, who is an active researcher, participating in research activity in the University.

Distinguished persons who are renowned active researchers.  Appointees shall not be current members of staff of the University.

Vice-Chancellor 

For a period determined by the Vice-Chancellor

Only with the prior approval of the PVC (Research)

 

Artist-in-Residence

Where there would be a significant advantage to the University in having a person who is a distinguished artist, participating in research, or providing expertise to staff and students, in their specific artistic field.

Artists-in-Residence will not be required to possess a minimum academic qualification, however, it is expected that their experience and artistic talent is of a high level.

Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research)

Minimum of one month to a maximum period of two years.

Writer-in-Residence

Where there would be a significant advantage to the University in having a person who is a distinguished writer, participating in research, or providing expertise to staff and students, in their specific field.

Writers-in-Residence will not be required to possess a minimum academic qualification, however, it is expected that their experience and writing talent is widely recognised and of a high level.

Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research)

Minimum of one month to a maximum period of two years.

Adjunct Appointments

Where there would be a significant advantage to the University in having a person participating in teaching, research or other activities of a particular academic Division in the University.

Significant achievements in professional or academic work and/or associated research. 

Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research), or Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) for appointments up to and including Associate Professor status. Vice-Chancellor for appointments at Professorial status (for referral to Senate).

May be awarded, or renewed, for periods of up to three years

Affiliate Teaching Staff

To facilitate the contribution to teaching of teaching staff from other organisations who deliver Murdoch courses/units through a contractual arrangement

Staff appointed to teach Murdoch courses/units by other organisations offshore or onshore

Executive Dean

Restricted to teaching appointment as determined by the other organisation
