  The University’s policy for offshore teaching activities is as follows:

The following standards and guidelines apply to the University’s remuneration policy for offshore teaching:

3. REMUNERATION

Where payment for  offshore teaching or offshore moderation activities undertaken separately from teaching is approved under this policy, payment will be at an hourly rate equivalent to the rate established for a developed lecture in the discipline. The number of teaching and travel hours paid will be agreed by negotiation with the Administrative Head. Moderation activities for offshore programs may include marking, student and staff consultation, lecturing and other duties allocated by the Administrative Head or delegated authority.  Payments under this policy will attract employer superannuation in accordance with the Workplace Agreement that covers the Employee

4. PAYMENTS

All teaching or moderation payments from offshore institutions will be made to the Office of Financial Services at Murdoch University. Payments to staff will be made by Human Resources, as salary for teaching or moderation  in the offshore program following approval by the Administrative Head.

Under no circumstances will payments for offshore teaching be paid into research accounts, due to  rulings by the Australian Taxation Office. 

5. TAXATION

Payments to staff will be taxed according to prevailing Australian income tax legislation.

  • Confirm compliance with this policy during the life of current Memoranda of Agreement.

Administrative Head

  • Determine whether  payment should be made to staff member undertaking offshore teaching or moderation and the amount of the payment
  • Compliance of staff with this policy

Human Resources

  • Make salary payments to staff members for offshore teaching.
  • Comply with the income tax law.
