Managing Unsatisfactory Performance and Misconduct

Policy

The satisfactory performance by employees of the requirements of their role, and maintaining good conduct, is critical to the ongoing success of the University. Managers have a responsibility to act where an employee does not satisfactorily perform their role or commits misconduct,

The University will manage unsatisfactory performance and misconduct through fair and efficient processes.

Standards and Guidelines

In dealing with unsatisfactory performance or misconduct the University will apply fair processes and act with appropriate respect for all involved in the process. Outcomes will be aimed at ensuring appropriate conduct and satisfactory performance by the University’s workforce.

Where an employee’s industrial instrument provides a process for dealing with unsatisfactory performance or misconduct, the University will apply those processes.

Responsibilities

Managers and Supervisors have responsibility for identifying and dealing promptly with any employee misconduct or unsatisfactory performance. Managers will ensure that the appropriate process is applied.

Employees have responsibility for diligently and satisfactorily performing their work and for conducting themselves at all times in accordance with appropriate standards, including abiding by the university’s codes, policy, procedures and statutes.

Where issues of unsatisfactory performance or misconduct are raised all parties have a responsibility to act professionally and in the best interests of the University.
